Family History

Harold Corbett was born in 1897 at Skegby he was the son of the late William Henry a coal miner hewer and Annie Maria Corbett née Wood and the brother of Albert Reginald, Gertrude Nelly and Jessie Corbett of Stanton Hill. William Henry was born in 1851 at Oakengate, Shropshire, he died in 1915 aged 64 Annie Maria Wood was born in 1854 at Brierley Hill, Staffordshire, they were married on 12th May 1874 at Shifnall, Shropshire, they went on to have 10 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived on Morley Street Stanton Hill. William Henry is 60 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Annie Maria 57 yrs and 4 of their children including Harold 14 yrs a clerk in a tin factory.

Military History

Private Harold Corbett enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the 7th battalion Royal Sussex Regiment. he died on 8th August 1918 and is buried at Villers Bretonnuex Military Cemetery, France.
