Family History

John Joseph White was born on 11th September 1886 at Skegby he was baptised at Skegby on 1st April 1894 and was the son of Job a coal miner and his wife Mary Ellen White née Williamson of 3 Dalestorth Terrace, Skegby, Nottinghamshire. His father Job was born in 1851 in Somercotes, Derbyshire and his mother Mary Ellen Wiliamson was born in 1856 in Bagthorpe, Nottinghamshire, they were married in 1875 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have the following children , Henry b1883 Bagthorpe, Ellen b1883 Bagthorpe, William b1885 Underwood and John Joseph b1886 Underwood. His mother Mary Ellen died in 1902 in Mansfield she was 45 yrs old. His father re married in 1903 in Mansfield to Elizabeth Fletcher. In the 1911 census his family are living at 3 Dalestorth Terrace, Skegby and are shown as Job 60 yrs a coal miner , he is living with his second wife Elizabeth 66 yrs, and their children John Joseph 23 yrs a labourer and Ellen 28 yrs , also living with them is Henry White 68 yrs a labourer and a boarder.

Military History

Private John Joseph White served with the 2/6th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he later transferred to the Home Service and served with service number 416557 in 603rd Employment Company, Labour Corps. He died at the Military Hospital at Ripon and was buried in St Andrews Church in Skegby.
