John Thomas West was born in 1896 he was the son of the late Leonard a road labourer and Sarah Eliza West née Adams of Leyton View Skegby Lane, Mansfield. Leonard was born in 1862 at Langwoth Derbyshire he died in 1913 aged 52 yrs, Sarah Eliza Adams was born in 1874 at Stamford, Lincolnshire, they were married on 8th August 1894 at St Mary's Church, Edwinstowe they had 3 children. In 1911 the family were living at Warsop Lane, Clipstone, Leonard is 49 yrs and is a road labourer, he is living with his wife Sarah Eliza 37 yrs and two of their children, John Thomas 15 yrs a farm labourer and Daisy Jessie 13 yrs a scholar

Military History

Bombardier John Thomas West enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield, he served with 'D' Battery, 70th Brigade Royal Field Artillery. He landed in France on 9th July 1915 and was killed in action on 19th April 1918 he is buried at Faubourg D'Amiens Cemetery, Arras.
