Family History

Frank Ward was born in 1880 he was the son of George a police sergeant and Mary Ward, née Robinson of 18 Firemans Cottage, Nottingham. George was born in 1856 at Skegby, Mary Robinson was born in 1858 at Berry Edge, Durham they were married on 17th May 1875 at St Andrews Church, Skegby they wen on to have 4 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 his parents are living at 18 Fireman's Cottages, Nottingham. George 53 yrs is a police sergeant, he is living with his wife Mary 53 yrs and their son Jack 29 yrs a widow and cashier. In 1911 Frank has left the family home he is a lodger living at The Nook, Skegby, he is shown as being 30 yrs single and a lime burner, he is living with Samuel Dobb 34 yrs a colliery labourer and his family.

Military History

Private Frank enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Teversall, he initially served with the service number 43488 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment later transferring to the 9th battalion Leicestershire Regiment. He was killed in action on 25th September 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial, Somme, France.
