Family History

John Taylor was born in 1889 at Belper he was the son of Henry and wife Elizabeth Taylor née Bath. of Belper. John married Eliza Mary Haynes (born 7th January 1887) in 1907 at Belper, they lived at Halls Cottage, Mansfield Road, Skegby, they had the following children, Clara born 22nd May 1908, John born 7th May 1911 and William born 4th September 1915. In 1911 the family were living at Lower Hatshay, John 22 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Eliza 24 yrs and their daughter Clara 2 yrs of age. Commencing 13th November 1916 was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 6 pence a week.

Military History

Private John Taylor enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Skegby, he served with the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was attached 181st Tunnelling Coy Royal Engineers. he died on 20th April 1916 and is buried at Maroeuil British Cemetery, France. Plot 2. Row B. Grave 9.
