William gave his next of kin as Eva Keyworth when he attested in 1915; the address was illegible but probably in Canada. It has not been possible to view the record of his passage from the UK to Canada, but it appears that his ultimate destination was Ontario.

Military History

4th Canadian Mounted Rifles Battalion William attested in Canada on 7 August 1915; the document is stamped '83rd Overseas Battalion CEF'. He had already served in the Militia for six months ('10 RG') and had also served in the Sherwood Foresters (Volunteers) for three years. He died in France and has no known grave but is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
