James Herbert Kellet born in 1886 the son of James a public works contractor and Annie Elizabeth Kellett née Jordan of 'Ingleside' Parham Road Gosport Hampshire. James was born in 1857 at Wyke, Yorkshire, Annie Jordan was born in 1861 at Stourbridge, Staffordshire, married in 1881 at Stourbridge and went on to have the following children, Caroline Annie b1882 Blakedown, Worcestershire, Sarah Ethel b 1883 Leicester, James Herbert b1887 Leicester, Winifred b1892 New Barnett Hertfordshire and Lawrence Briggs Kellett b1897 Northfield. In 1911 the family are living at Albyfield, Attenborough, Nottingham and are shown as James a public works contractor, living with his wife Annie Elizabeth and their children, Caroline Annie no occupation listed, Sarah Ethel no occupation listed, Winifred no occupation listed and Lawrence 13 yrs a scholar. In 1911 we find that James Herbert has left his family home and is living at Gerrard Hey Farm, Rochdale he is living with John Winterbottom 44 yrs a farmer and his family, James is shown as being 24 yrs , single and a civil engineer and is a lodger. His probate was proven(with will) on 27th December 1917 in London and shows him as James Herbert Kellett of Albyfield, Attenborough, Nottingham, Private in H.M Army, died 15th August 1917, his effects of £424, 14shillings and 4 pence were left to Annie Elizabeth Kellett wife of James Kellet
Private James Herbert Kellett enlisted at Montreal on 23rd March 1916, he gave his age as 29 yrs and 10 months and his address as 211 Notre Dame Street, St Lambert, Quebec he gave his occupation as that of a civil engineer and his religion as a Methodist, his next of kin was his father James of Attenborough, Nottingham, England. He served with the 13th battalion Canadian Infantry and was killed in action on 15th August 1917. His name is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial.
