Family History

Alfred Rawlinson (junior) was born in 1897 he was the son of Alfred Victor Rawlinson (senior) and Mary Rawlinson née Wenham and the brother of Eliza, Priscilla and Elsie Rawlinson of Dalesforth, Wraggs Lane, Skegby, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Alfred Victor Rawlinson (senior) was born in 1870 at Castle Camps, Mary Wenham was born in 1874 at Skegby they were married on 29th September 1894 at All Saints church at Castle Camps, they went on to have 6 children sadly two died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at Wraggs Lane Skegby, Alfred (senior) is 41 yrs and a platelayer for the Midland Railway, he is living with his wife Mary 37 yrs and their 4 children, including Alfred 13yrs a pit lad working above ground.

Military History

Private Alfred Rawlinson enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield whilst residing at Skegby he was Killed in action, 21st March 1918, aged 21, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact) Commemorated: Arras Memorial, France. Bay 7.
