Reginald Lee Hand was born in 1890 at Selston, he was the youngest son of John and Hannah Hand née Lee of Hall Green Farm Selston. John was born in 1854 and Hannah Lee was born in 1851 both were born in Selston, they were married in 1877 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration area, they had 7 children, In 1911 his parents and siblings were living at Hall Green Farm Selston, John 57 yrs is a farmer, he is living with his wife Hannah 60 yrs and their children, In 1911 Reginald was boarding at 69 Park Street, Beeston, Nottingham, he is shown as being 20 yrs a railway booking clerk he is living with William Goodwin 57 yrs a levers lace maker and his wife. Reginald emigrated to Canada.

Military History

Private Reginald Lee Hand served wit the 28th battalion Canadian Infantry, He died of wounds on 11th November 1917 and is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery (grave ref. XXII. EE. 14).

Inscription on family headstone, St Helen's Churchyard, Selston: In loving memory of Hannah, the beloved wife of John Hand (late Hobsic Farm) who died March 14th 1925 aged 74 years. 'Peace, Perfect Peace.' Also John Hand who died Dec 11th 192(-) aged 72 years. Also Reginald Lee Hand (Canadian Inf) their youngest son who died of wounds Nov. 11th 1917 aged 27 years. Interred Remy Cemetery Flanders. ‘The Supreme Sacrifice’
