John Henry Foster

John Henry Foster was born in 1883 at Kneesall and was the son of William a shoe maker and Elizabeth Foster née Bellamy of Rose Cottage, Kneesall, Newark. His father William was born in 1854 at Kneesall and his mother Elizabeth Bellamy was born in 1859 at Eakring, they were married in 1879 their marriage was recorded in the Southwell Registration district, they went on to have the following children, Sarah b1881, John Henry b1883, Alice M b1887 and Alfred William b1900, all were born in Kneesall. In the 1911 census his parents are living at Kneesall and are shown as William 57 yrs a shoe maker, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 52 yrs and their son Alfred William 11 yrs. In the same 1911 census we find that John Henry has moved out of the family home and is living at 31 Newcastle Street, Tuxford, he is shown as being 28 yrs a boarder and a stationary engine driver for a railway company, he is living with Sarah Ann Millers a 66 yr old widow and her son. On 6th March 1913 we find that John Henry 30 yrs is shown as a passenger on board the White Star Line ship Runic which left the Port of Liverpool travelling to Sydney Australia, he gives his occupation as that of a carpenter.
