Henry Acton (junior) was born in 1875 at Manchester he was the son of Henry Acton (senior) a brickmaker and Sarah Ann Acton of Manchester. He married Sarah Wilson born 5th July 1877 on 18th July 1898 at St Andrews, Skegby, they lived at White House, Skegby they had six children, George Joseph b1898 Albert H born 1899, Amelia born 23rd January 1902, Cyril born 27th September 1904,, Lucy born 9th April 1906 and William Acton born 28th May 1909. In 1911 the family were living at White House Skegby, Henry 34 yrs is a coliery labourer he is living with his wife Sarah 34 yrs and their six children. They lived at The Brunt Skegby.

Military History

Private Henry Acton enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield, whilst residing at Skegby, he was killed in action on 27th June 1916 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. Somme, France
