Family History

Seth Williams was born in 1894 he was the son of Joseph James Dredge a coal miner and his second wife Mary Williams née Pickering of Mansfield Woodhouse, Joseph James Dredge was born in 1851 at Lamyatt, Somerset, he married his first wife Lucy Timons born 1859 at Shirebrook, she died on 8th October 1889 aged 30 yrs they were married on 8th July 1878 at Staveley and had 4 children. His father re married in 1890 at Mansfield to Mary Ann Pickering born 1860 Greasley, they were married in 1890 at Mansfield and had 2 children, Seth born 1894 and Lilian Mary b1897. In 1911 the family were living at Hepthorne Lane, North Wingfield, Joseph James is 60 yrs and a colliery, he is living with his second wife Mary Ann 51 yrs and their 2 children, Seth 17 yrs a foundry labourer and Lillian May 14 yrs.

Military History

Private Seth Williams enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Mansfield Woodhouse, he served with the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 23rd May 1918 and is buried/commemorated : Le Touret Military Cemetery, Richebourg-lAvoue, France. Plot 3, Row F, Grave 27.
