George William Hart was the son of William John a railway porter/guard on the Midland Railways and Nellie Upton Hart née Notman of 12, Kirkwhite St., NottinghamHis father William John was born in 1868 in Belfast, Northern Ireland and his mother Nellie Upton Notman was born in 1874 in Cotgrave, they were married in 1896 in Nottingham and went on to have the following children, George William b1897, Florence Mary b1900, Margaret Ann b1903, Arthur Robert b1906 and Mabel b1909, all the children were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 12 Kirkwhite Street, Meadows, Nottingham and are shown as William John 43 yrs a railway porter/guard, he is living with his wife Ellen 37 yrs and their children William John 13 yrs an errand boy, Florence Mary 11 yrs a scholar, Margaret Ann 8 yrs a scholar, Arthur Robert 5 yrs a scholar and Mabel 2 yrs
Second Lieutenant George William Harte, had enlisted under age and served with the 2nd Battalion Royal Munster Fusiliers, he landed in France on 13th July 1915 was killed in action on 5th March 1918. He is buried in Villers-Faucon Communal Cemetery Extension. (grave ref lll.F.7)
