Family History

Sidney Lowe was born in 1892 and was the son of Robert a coal miner and Mary Lowe née Price and they lived at Old Underwood Selston Nottinghamshire. His father Robert was born in 1860 in Nether Broughton, Leicestershire and his mother Mary Price was bron in 1866 in Bagthorpe, their children all born in Bagthorpe were William b1891, Sidney b1892, Dora b1894 and Claude Samuel b1898. Sidney married his wife Elsie Gardiner in 1916, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District they lived at The Farm, Bagthopre

Military History

Sergeant Sidney Lowe, enlisted at Derby in December 1914and initially served with service number 3584 in the 2/5th battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment. He later transferred to the 470th Field Company Royal Engineers. He served in Ireland during the Irish Rebellion and went to France in February 1917. He was killed in action on 30th November 1917 and is buried in Gouzeaucourt New British Cemetery.

Death notice published 30th November 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “LOWE. – In proud and loving memory of Sidney Lowe, Sergt.
