Father: George Taylor, born in 1844 in Scotland, working as a coal hewer. Mother: Mary Taylor, born in 1854 in Nottingham. Brother: John G., born in 1874, working as a coal hewer. Sisters: Mary A., born in 1875, working as a cotton reeler, Florence, born in 1878, working as a cotton winder, Margaret, born in 1882, working as a cotton jennies and barbara, born in 1883. All the children were born in Nottingham. The family lived at 10 Baldwin Street, New Radford, Nottingham before moving to 42 Edwin Street, St. Ann's Well Road, Nottingham.
Pte Taylor was called up for service and following training he was drafted to France. Initially he was posted to there North Staffordshire Regiment with No. 35765, but he was later posted to 1st Bn. Royal Guernsey Regiment. In April 1918 the battalion was involved in heavy fighting as the Germans launched Operation Georgette, an attempt to split the armies and capture the Channel ports. The line fell back but never completely broke. It was in this fighting on 13/04/1918 that Pte. Taylor was killed in action. His body was never recovered but his name was commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
