Family History

Leonard Dresher, known as Leon, was the only child of Adolph and Mary Jane Dresher (née Cook). His parents married at Nottingham and Leon’s birth was registered there (J/A/S/1897). His father died prior to the 1911 Census which recorded Leonard living with his widowed mother who was then a 34 year old dressmaker born at West Bridgford. The pair lived at 21 Guy’s Terrace Blue Bell Hill Nottingham but by 1914 had moved to 19 Ferris Street Nottingham. In 1918 Mary married William Saltinstall at Nottingham and they lived at 1 Abbotsford Street St Ann’s Nottingham.

Death notice published 13th November 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post : ‘DRESHER. – Died in military hospital, November 9th, Gnr. Leonard Dresher (Leon), R.G.A., the dearly loved and only son of Mary Saltinstall, Carisbrooke-terrace, aged 21.
