Harry Palmer was born in 1896 he was the son of Henry a coal miner contractor and Mary Ann Palmer née Lunn and the brother of Annie, James, William and Hettie Palmer. of Lilley's Row Selston Nottinghamshire. Henry was born in 1867 at Whitminster, Gloucester, Mary Ann Lunn was born in 1870 at Clay Cross, they were married on 20th April 1895 at the London Road, Wesleyan Methodist Church, they had 11 children, sadly 5 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at Lilleys Row, Selston, Henry 44 yrs is a coal miner contractor, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 41 yrs and 5 of their children including Harry 15 yrs a coal miner clipper.
Private Harry Palmer enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Selston, he initially served with the service number 46347 in The King's Royal Rifles later transferring to the Royal Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 26th August 1918 and is buried at Hem Farm Military Cemetery, Hem-Monacu.
