He was the son of Robert and Rose Hannah Radford Harold married his wife Kate Ellen Wood (b 1890 Portsmouth) and they went on to have a daughter Clarice Annie born 1908 in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family were living at 41 Regent Street, Long Eaton and are shown as Harold 23 yrs head of the family a professional skater working for the Long Eaton Skating Company Ltd, he is living with his wife Kate Ellen 21 yrs and their daughter Clarice Annie 2 yrs. Harold's last known address was Regent Street, Long Eaton, however his KIA letter was sent to his mothers address in Hungerhill Gardens, Nottingham where his wife,Edith Radford, was also living at the time.
Private Harold Raford had enlisted in Nottingham , he initially served with service number 6493 in the King's Royal Rifle Corps, he later transferred to the 122 Company of the Machine Gun Corps. He was killed in action in fighting in the Ypres Salient and was buried at Dickebusch New Military cemetery (AA. 51.)
Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 7th April 1919 :- “RADFORD. – In proud and loving memory of our dear son and brother, Harold, M.G.C., killed in action April 7th, 1917.
