Born Second Quarter 1883 Sneinton, Nottingham He was the son of Henry and Mary Allsopp On 1891 Census he is living with his parents and siblings – Ernest John and Gertrude - at 32 Beacon Street, Nottingham. His father is listed as a mantel mason. NB. There are also the following listed as children but unclear whether these are full or half brothers and sisters to William - Albert Moore, George Moore, Gertrude Moore, Percy Moore, Edgar Moore and Arthur Moore. On 1901 Census he is living with his brother Ernest and his family at 22 Calcutta Street, Nottingham. William is shown as a bricklayer's labourer He married Sarah Elizabeth (née Tomlinson) Allsopp in Second Quarter 1903. On 1911 Census he is living with his wife at 11 Harold Terrace, Pole Street Nottingham. William is shown as a bricklayer's labourer Resident Nottingham
Renumbered T4/243772 in 1917. William joined the 4th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Derbyshire Regiment) for six years on 23rd April 1900 but re-enlisted in the 3rd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) on 10th December 1907. He joined No.1 (Headquarters) Company, North Midland Divisional Train, as T/495 Driver and entered theatre (France) on 28th February 1915. He was killed on 22 April 1917, the same day as T4/243707 Driver William Wright. This was the only time during the war that two or more men serving with the Divisional Train were killed in the same incident. He was buried in Aix-Noulette Communal Cemetery Extension (grave ref. I.F.7); Driver Wright was buried in the adjacent grave (I.F.8) The War Diary merely states ‘Driver Allsopp and Driver Wright + 2 HD (heavy draft horses) killed night 21st/22nd’
His brother Ernest John Allsopp also served. His nephew, 331179 Private Harry Randolph Allsopp 13th Battalion Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment), was killed in action on 15th November 1917 aged 19 and is buried at Level Crossing Cemetery, Fampoux. He had originally served as 17/27944 Private Notts & Derbys Regiment.
