He was the husband of Amy Middleton née Walmsley whom he married in 1907, their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district. In 1911 census they lived at 20 Bloomfield Street, Dame Agnes Street, Nottingham he is shown as being 26 yrs a gas fitter and she is shown as 26 yrs a tobacco stripper in a cigar factory she was born in Wainfleet, Lincolnshire His probate proven with will on 23rd November 1919 at Nottingham shows him as Albert Middleton of 96 Ena Avenue, Sneinton Dale, Nottingham gunner in his majesty's army died 4th November 1917 in France, his effects of £253 4 shillings to Amy Middleton widow.
Gunner Albert Middleton, enlisted at Nottingham served with the 308th Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery, he was killed in action on 4th November 1917. He is buried in Menin Road South Military Cemetery.(grave ref III.H.27).
Nottingham Post obituary (abridged), 30 November 1917: 'Middleton. Killed in action 4 November 1917, Gunner A Middleton, age 33, husband of Amy Middleton, Ena Avenue. Thirteen years with Nottingham Gas Department. Wife, father, brother, sisters Emma, Hepsey.' Obituaries published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 4th November 1918:- “MIDDLETON. – In loving memory of my dear husband, Gnr. A. Middleton, of 96 Ena-avenue, killed in action November 4th, 1917, late of Woodborough-road Gas Department. How I miss him none but aching hearts can tell.. – Sorrowing wife Amy. “MIDDLETON. – Killed in action November 4th, 1917, Gnr. A. Middleton, R.G.A. A noble life laid down. – Father, brother, sister-in-law, and niece. “MIDDLETON. – In fondest memory of our dear brother, Gnr. A. Middleton, killed in action November 4th, 1917. – Deeply mourned, sadly missed by his loving sisters Emma and Hepsey, brother-in-law, nephew, Clarence (in France). “MIDDLETON. – In loving memory of Gnr. A. Middleton, R.G.A., killed in action November 4th, 1917.
