Family History

William Henry Gilder was born in 1876 he was the son of William Gilder a farm labourer and Mary Ann Gilder née Baxter, of Warmington, Northamptonshire, William was born in 1848 and Mary Ann Baxter was born in 1849 both were born in Warmington, they were married on 11th June 1872 at Warmington and went on to have 9 children. In 1911 his parents and siblings are living at Warmingtn, William 63 yrs is a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 62 yrs and two of their children, William married Elizabeth Bell born 8th March 1886 in 1901 at Kirkby their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, Elizabeth brought a child to the marriage John William Bell born 1899 Kirkby the family lived at 15 Castleton Street, Meadows Nottingham. they had 3 further children, Herbert William born 9th July 1902, Emma born 12th February 1907 and Sarah born 1909. In 1911 the family were living at Poplar, Selston, William Henry is 35 yrs a coal miner loader, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 32 yrs Herbert William 8 yrs, Emma 4 yrs and Sarah Ellen 2 yrs of age. Commencing 17th July 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 6 pence a week.

Military History

Private William Gilder enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the 1st battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 28th December 1915 and is buried at St Mary's A.D.S Cemetery, Haisnes, France.
