Family History

Albert Henry Gell was born in 1894 he was the son of Ernest George a plumber and Sarah Gell née Horsley and the brother of Leslie Victor Horsley, Annie Elizabeth and Doris Violet Gell. Ernest George was born in 1865 at Nottingham, Sarah Horsley was born in 1865 at Codnor, they were married in 1887 and went on to have 9 children, sadly 3 died in infancy or early childhood, In 1911 the family lived at 8 Alexander Terrace, Pinxton Wharf Alfreton. Ernest George is 46 yrs a plumber he is living with his wife Sarah 43 yrs and 4 of their children including Albert Henry 16 yrs a coal miner pony driver.

Military History

Private Albert Henry Gell enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the 8th battalion Royal Welch Fusiliers, he died on 7th August 1915 whilst serving at Gallipoli, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli.
