Family History

William Wragg was born in 1897 at Nottingham he was the son of Albert George a cycle fitter and Annie Wragg née Hough of 4 Lilac Street, Dame Agnes Street, Nottingham. His father Albert George was born in 1872 at Radford, his mother Annie Hough was born in 1871 at Southwell , they were married in 1890 at Nottingham and went on to have the following children all of whom were born in Nottingham, George b1891, Annie b1895, William b1897, Albert Hector b1901 , Thomas b1905, Harry b1905, Edith b1909 and Stephen b1913. In the 1911 census the family are living at 4 Lilac Street, Nottingham and are shown as Annie 40 yrs married and a house wife, she is living with her children, Annie 61 yrs a lace worker, William 14 yrs a grocers errand boy, Albert Hector 10 yrs a a scholar, Thomas 6 yrs, Harry 4 yrs and Edith 1 year of age. In the same 1911 census George Wragg has left the family home, he is in the army, and is shown as George 21 yrs a Private with the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, the battalion are at barracks in Hong Kong.

Military History

Private William Wragg enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on the first day of the battle of the Somme, 1st July 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial, Somme, France.
