Harry Wheat

Private Harry Wheat, served with 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, he was killed in action at 'The Bluff' on 14th February 1916. His photograph, together the information that he was killed in a mine explosion that preceded the German assault, was published on 19th April 1916. He has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.

Obituaries published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 14th February 1917 read :- “WHEAT. – In loving memory of our dear son, Private H. Wheat, Sherwood Foresters, 14, Cathcart-street, killed in action February 14th, 1916. He nobly answered duty's call, he gave his life for one and all. – Mother, father, sisters, brothers, and brother Jack (in France) “WHEAT. – To the memory of Private H.
