He was the son of John and Lydia Brewin and the brother of Isabel, Herbert, Lydia, John and William Brewin. In 1901 they lived at 61 Lamcote Road Nottingham and in 1911 at 24 Portland Place Grantham. He was married to Mary and the family lived on Alfred Street.
Arthur Brewin enlisted in Nottingham and entered theatre (France) on 2nd February 1916 with the 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Bantams). At some point he was posted to the 1st Battalion and died of wounds on 30 January 1917. The battalion moved into the front line on 26th January and remained there until 3rd February. The weather was terrible with hard frost and snow but the war went on and Arthur would have been wounded during the first couple of days possibly by ‘friendly fire’ falling short. The enemy also shelled the line and communications trench. Arthur was taken back to an Aid Station where he died. He was probably buried near the front line and his remains re-interred after the Armistice. John Morse
Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged) 5 March 1917: 'Brewin Died of wounds January 30th, Corporal Arthur Brewin, Sherwood Foresters, aged 32, husband of Mary Brewin, Alfred Street. Wife, children, mother, sisters, brothers.'
