Thomas Ivor was born in 1897 in Cardiff Glamorgan and was the son of Fred a joinder and Clara Blunden née Giles of 60 The Wells Road Nottingham His father Frederick was born in 1868 in Emsworth, Hampshire, his mother Clara Giles was born in Codnor Park, Derbyshire. They were married in Southwark London in 1889 and went on to have 6 children , sadly 1 died in infancy , their surviving children were :- Mabel b1890 Codnor Park, Frederick b1892 Codnor Park, Evelyn May b1894 White Cross, Glamorgan, Thomas Ivor b1897 Cardiff and Redvers b1900 Cardiff. In the 1911 census the family are living at 32 Colborn Street, Nottingham , they are shown as Frederick 43 yrs head of the family a joiner , he is living with his wife Clara 38 yrs and their children , Mabel 21 yrs a sewing machinist, blouses , Frederick 19 yrs a grocers clerk, Evelyn 17 yrs a sewing machinist blouses Ivor 14 yrs and Redvers 11 yrs. At the time of their son's death in 1916 his parents were living at 27 The Wells Road.
Private Thomas Ivor Blunden enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters. He landed in France on 14th July 1915. He was originally reported missing in action but it was later confirmed he was killed in action on 14th February 1916 and was buried by the Germans at Oosttaverne Wood Cemetery (Three Houses German Cemetery) his actual grave was subsequently lost and is now remembered on Mem. 1. (near Plot III).
Nottingham Evening Post notice (abridged), 16 June: 'Blunden. Died a prisoner of war in Germany April 6th 1916 [date as transcribed], Private Thomas Ivor Blunden, Sherwood Foresters, son of Frederick and Clara Blunden, 27 Wells Road, Nottingham.' Further obituaries published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 14th February 1917, read :- “BLUNDEN. – In ever-loving memory of our dear son Bugler T. I. Blunden, Sherwood Foresters, killed in action February 14th, 1916. A noble life laid down. – From his sorrowing mother, father, and brothers Fred and Redvers. “BLUNDEN. – In fond remembrance of our dear brother Bugler T. I. Blunden, Sherwood Foresters, killed in action February 14th, 1916. Some time we'll understand. – From his loving sisters, Mabel and Evelyn, also Bera and Fred on active service.
