Family History

He was the husband of Blanche Mabel nee Plunkett whom he married in Nottingham in 1914 (registered Jul/Aug/Sep). At the time of his death they were living at 108 Loughborough Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham. There is a record of a Cecil Bush (15, b. Portsmouth) living with his parents George and Clara Bush at 3 Tadmore Street, Hammersmith, London. George (53) was a royal messenger, and he and his wife (45) had both been born in Warminster. Another son, George (22, b. India) was also living at home; he was an elementary school teacher. In 1911 a Cecil Bush, single (25, b. Portsmouth) was employed as a pianoforte salesman at a pianoforte warehouse. He was a boarder at 29 Park Row, Nottingham. Blanche did not remarry and died on 21 September 1955 age 70. At the time of her death she was living at 36 Westbourne Villas, Hove, Sussex.

Military History

He was serving in HMS Violent, a 'V' Class destroyer launched in 1917. He died on a hospital ship of pneumonia and was buried in Nottingham Church Cemetery (St Pauls 9905).

Nottingham Evening Post Roll of Honour, 30 October 1918, following a report on the funeral of Lieutenant Sidney Wade, Sherwood Foresters, in Nottingham General Cemetery: 'Two Nottingham soldiers (sic) were buried today with full military honours. They were Privates Ball Labour Corps aged 34 of Leicester Street, and Cecil W Bush of Loughborough Road. Both died of pneumonia. The last named on a hospital ship.' Inscription on headstone: 'In loving memory of Cyril William Gordon Bush, dearly loved husband of Blanche Bush and son of George and Clara Bush. Died on active service Oct. 26th 1918 aged 33 years. 'The spirit shall return (-)'. And of Blanche M Bush died Sept. 21st 1955.' Probate: 'Bush Cecil William Gordon of 108 Loughborough-road West Bridgford Nottinghamshire able seaman in HM Navy died 26 October 1918 at sea Administration Nottingham 14 March [1919] to Blanche Mabel Bush widow. Effects £325 8s. 8d.' Probate: 'Bush Blanche Mabel of 36 Westbourne Villas Hove Sussex widow died 21 September 1955 at the Royal Sussex County Hospital Brighton Probate Winchester 4 November [1955] to Ida Plunkett spinster. Effects £1464 1s. 2d.'
