Extra Information

In the Hucknall Dispatch published on 20th May 1915 Musson wrote of an attack he took part in on 1st May 1915. 'We have been very busy at the front lately. On May 1st about 50 of us were picked to take a certain position near a railway at the bayonet’s point. We charged at 10 a.m., and in half-an-hour we had captured one machine-gun, 15 prisoners, and killed about 30 others. We got the position and still hold it. Yesterday (Sunday) we were shelled all the afternoon, but had no casualties.' Article published 26th August 1915 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “NETHERFIELD GUARDSMAN KILLED. “Mr. D. Musson, of 11, Chandos-street, Netherfield, has received an official intimation, accompanied by an expression of sympathy from the King and Queen, of the death, as a result of wounds received in action, of his only son, Private E. Musson, of the 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards. Private Musson, who was 33, had previously served with the Coldstreams, and on passing into reserve, secured an appointment on one of the Atlantic liners. When war broke out he rejoined his regiment, and he went out to France on August 11th last year, a year and three days before he died.” Newspaper articles are courtesy of Jim Grundy and his facebook pages Small Town Great War Hucknall 1914-1918 Nottingham Evening Post In Memoriam 12/8/1916: 'Musson.
