He was the son Charles and Alice Shaw and the brother of Clara Eveline, Alice Mabel, Edith Elise and Doris Hettie Shaw. In 1901 they lived at the Royal Forester Inn Union Street Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire where Charles was the licensee. In 1911 Hubert lived with his uncle William Bacon at 145 Trent Boulevard West Bridgford Nottingham. Edith Shaw later lived at 5 Captain Albert Ball VC Memorial Homes Church Street Lenton Nottingham.
