Edward Arthur was born in 1896 in Nottingham and was the son of Thomas a surveyor and Florence Gertrude Parr née Smith. His father Thomas was born in 1858 in Epperstone and his mother Florence Gertrude Smith had been born in Walworth London in 1870. They were married in Nottingham in 1890, and had two other children Charles Edward born 1894 in Nottingham and also Florence born 1904 in Nottingham. At the time of the 1911 Census, Edward Arthur he was working as a Post Office messenger, living with his grandparents, Thomas and Sarah Ann Smith, of 24 Cromwell Street, Nottingham. His parents on the same 1911 census are listed as visitors at 22 Castle Boulevard, Nottingham , they are visiting the household of Newberry Stephenson 88 yrs a widow and retired fishmonger , they have their daughter Florence with them. Also present at the address is Mary Ann Smith 64 yrs a house keeper (this could be a relative of Florence née Smith)

Military History

Private Edward Arthur Parr, enlisted in Nottingham , he served with 23rd (Sportsmans') Battalion Royal Fusiliers, he was killed in action 10th February 1916. He is buried in the Guards Cemetery, Windy Corner, Cuinchy.
