Frederick Goodwin (junior) was born in 1889 at Sneinton, Nottingham, the son of Frederick Goodwin (senior) a general labourer and Mary Goodwin née Briggs. He married Edith Scattergood on 18th May 1918 and they lived at 24 Crown Street, Carlton Road, Nottingham, they had a son Frederick born in 1918. He died on 16th February 1919 at his home address of 8 Bloomsgrove Street, Radford and was buried at the Nottingham General cemetery.
Private Frederick Goodwin enlisted on 9th January 1907 in London, he gave his age as 20 yrs and 9 months, he was a painter, posted to the West Yorkshire Regiment he served on the home front until 17th October 1907 and then went to serve in India, He returned to England on 30th December 1911 where he served until 8th January 1914 when he was posted to the reserves. He then left England to live in Australia and upon the outbreak of war he was mobilised in Australia and returned to England where he served until he landed in France on 17th March 1915. He was wounded , a gun shot wound to his right hand and returned to England on 8th November 1915. Posted to the reserves on 20th May 1917. He was then employed at Basford water works as a stoker until his discharge from the Army on 10th January 1919. He died on 16th February 1919 and is buried in the Nottingham General cemetery where he had a military ceremony.
Nottingham Evening Post Roll of Honour (abridged) 18/2/1919: 'Goodwin. On the 16th inst. Frederick Goodwin, 8 Bloomsgrove Street, Ilkeston Road Radford. Military funeral, 12.30 on Saturday, General Cemetery.' He has no entry on the CWGC or soldiers died in the Great War
