John George Chubb was born in 1899 the son of Noah (born Chard 1870), a presser and threader, and Annie Chubb [née Miller] (born Nottingham 1871). They had eleven children, six surviving infancy - William b.1892, Nellie b.1895, John George b.1899, Noah b.1903, Violet b1908 and Clarence Leslie b.1910. In 1911 they lived at 111 Park Street Lenton Nottingham. John’s parents later lived at 1 Kyme Street, Denman Street, Radford, Nottingham.
1st Bn Royal Guernsey Light Infantry John George Chubb attested at Nottingham on 19th June 1916 giving his age as 17 yrs and 173 days. The following day he was posted to the reserves and on 17th February 1917 was mobilised. He was posted to the North Staffordshire Regiment transferring to the Royal Guernsey Light Infantry on 20th August 1917. Embarking from Guernsey on 1st February 1918 and landing in France on the 2nd, he died of wounds at the 94th Field Ambulance and is buried in Outtersteene Communal Cemetery Extension, Bailleul, France Grave Reference I.F.8.
