Family History

John Bow (junior) was born in 1888 and was the son of John Bow (senior) a bricklayer and Eliza Bow née Robinson of 10 East Street, Nottingham. John Bow (senior0 was born in 1855 at Nottingham, Eliza Robinson was born in 1857 at Nottingham, married in 1880 at Nottingham they went on to have 13 children, sadly 7 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at 10 East Street, Nottingham John Bow (junior) married Florence Gertrude Shenton ( a widow) born 9th September 1882 they were married in 4th March 1916 at the Nottingham Registry Office, Florence brought a child to the marriage Alfred Kirkby born 20th June 1901. They lived at 11 Franchise Terrace, Westminster Street, St Ann's, Nottingham. Commencing 30th April 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Private John Bow enlisted at Nottingham on 16th July 1906, giving his age as 18 yrs and 2 months, his occupation was that of a lace hand. He served with the 8th battalion Border Regiment and served at Gallipoli where he was wounded on 21st June 1915 a gun shot wound to his leg. After recovering he was later admitted to hospital with dysentery on 1st October 1915 whilst still at Gallipoli. He was returned to England from Malta on 2nd December 1915. He landed in France on 23rd July 1916 he died of wounds on 23rd October 1916 and is buried at Abbeville Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
