Arthur Charles Bunney was the adopted son of William Gamblle, a railway porter, and his wife Eliza. He was shown on the 1891 Census as a boarder, 1 year of age, living with William and Eliza Gamble, both 47 years of age, at their home at 3 Carrington Terrace, Nottingham. Also present at the address are Ellen Gamble 14 yrs and Eliza Gamble 11 yrs, both daughters of William and Eliza. In the 1911 census we find Arthur living at 4 Kentwood Road, Nottingham. He is shown as being 21 yrs, single, and a lace warehouse man, boarding with Annie Priestley (31 yrs) and her family which includes her mother-in-law Eliza Gamble (67 yrs), a widow. Arthur married Ethel Shirtcliffe on 28th June 1913 in Nottingham; they went on to have a daughter Margaret Annie born 28th November 1914 at 4 Kentwood Road, Nottingham. Following Arthur's death, his widow Ethel received a letter from the Ministry of Pensions informing her she would be receiving a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence per week in respect of her and her daughter, to take effect from 19th May 1919.
185th Siege Battery Gunner 77714 Arthur Bunney enlisted on 6th December 1915 at West Bridgford. He gave his age as 28 yrs and 4 months, his address as 7 Edwinstowe Avenue, West Bridgford, and stated he worked as a lace warehouse. His next of kin was his wife Ethel of the same address. He was posted to the Reserves and mobilised for war on 3rd February 1916 and posted to the Depot of the Royal Garrison Artillery on 5th March 1916. Arthur landed in France on 24th December 1917 and was killed in action on 24th October 1918. He is buried in Wassigny Communal Cemetery, Aisne, France.
