Charles Henry Pearson was born in Arnold in 1885 he married his wife Ethel Anthony in 1907 at Nottingham, they went on to have the following children, Harold born 1908, Irene Annie b1908, Alan b1910, Ernest b1914 and Ethel b1916. In the 1911 Census the family are shown living at 4 Manns Yard, Front Street and are shown Charles Henry 26 yrs a baker, he is living with his wife Ethel 24 yrs and their children Harold 3 yrs, Irene Annie 2 yrs and Alan 1 year of age.
Sergeant Charles Henry Pearson enlisted in Nottingham into the Sherwood Foresters and served in the 1/7th (Robin Hood) battalion and was killed in action on the first day of the battle of the Somme. He was awarded the Military Medal.
Entries on both the 'Soldiers died in the Great War ' and the 'Commonwealth War Graves Commission' refer to Charles Henry as only Henry, however on the Arnold Cross Memorial and Arnold St Marys Church memorial he is referred to as Charles Henry, however on the Allen Solly works memorial he is again shown as Henry.
