Family History

John Henry Glenn Woodward was born in 1887 at Radford and was the son of the late John Woodward and Louisa Jane Woodward nee Hunt. His father John Woodward was born in 1857 at Sheffield and died in 1900 at Nottingham aged 43 yrs, his mother Louisa Jane Hunt was born in 1860 at Lenton, they were married in 1878 at Nottingham and went on to have 10 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood, their children all born in Nottingham were , Harriett Eliza b1879, Samuel Hunt b1880, Florence b1885, John Henry Glen b1887, Harold b1889, Gladys b1899 ,Herbert b1894 and Gordon Woodward b1903. In the 1911 census the family were living at 4 Clayton's Square, Hornbuckle Street, Denman Street Radford Nottingham and were shown as Louisa 51yrs a widow and lace maker, she is living with her children, John Henry Glen 23 yrs a bobbin carriage hand, Herbert 17 yrs, a bobbin carriage hand and Gordon 8 yrs he was the husband of Margaret Woodward,née Fuller of 21 Ronald Street, Nottingham they had a daughter Florence Amelia.

Military History

Private John Henry Glen Woodward, enlisted on 24th May 1914 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 22 yrs , he stated his occupation was that of a cbobbin carriage hand, his address was 21 Ronald Street, Nottingham, he was posted to the 1/7th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment (Robin Hood Rifles). He embarked from Southampton on 25th February 1915 and was shot by a sniper and died of wounds in the 14th Field Ambulance on 3rd July 1915. He is buried in Railway Dugouts Burial Ground (Transport Farm),

His mother in law was Eliza Fuller 39 Auckland Street, Radford, Nottingham and she acted on his behalf following his death.
