Family History

Walter Moore was born in 1894 in Bethnall Green, London, and was the son of John and Hannah Moore née Jones. His father John was born in 1864 at Coventry and his mother Hannah Jones was born in 1867 at London. They were married on 25th December 1889 at St James Church, Bethnall Green, London, and went on to have the following children: John b1892 London, Walter b1894 London, Eliza b1895 Nottingham and Polly b1900 Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 21 Paxton Street, Nottingham, and are shown as John 47 yrs a silk dyer, who is living with his wife Hannah 44 yrs and their children, Walter 17 yrs a packer, Eliza 16 yrs a bobbin maker and Polly 11 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Walter Moore enlisted at Derby and served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He landed in France on 8th September 1914. Walter was killed in action by German shellfire on 26 December 1915 while in the front line at St Jean, Belgium. He is buried at White House Cemetery, St. Jean-Les-Ypres, Belgium (grave ref. Plot 1. Row F. Grave 20).
