William Hurt was born on 21st January 1878 at Sutton in Ashfield, and lived at 74 Mitchell Street Radford Nottingham. with his unmarried wife Isabella Freeman (born 1877 at Sneinton, Nottingham) His wife Sarah Jane Hurt was born in 1872 at Oakham, Rutland, she died in 1907 aged 39 yrs, they had the following children, Florence Lilly b1898, Edith Ethel b1902 and William Henry b1905 all were born in Radford. In the 1911 census he and his family are living at 76 Mitchell Street, Radford and are shown as William 34 yrs a widow and a night labourer, he is living with Isabella Freeman 34 yrs a lace hand clipper shown as a boarder and his children, Florence Lilly 13 yrs a scholar, Edith Ethel 9 yrs a scholar and William Henry 6 yrs.

Military History

Private William Hurt enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers. He died of wounds on 28th September 1915 and is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
