Family History

Ernest was the son of Ernest Edward Wragby and his wife Fanny (née Boot). His father Ernest Edward was born in Nottingham in June 1873, the son of Stephen and Jane Wragg, and baptised at Nottingham St Ann in June 1886; the family was living on Pym Street. His mother Fanny Boot was born in May 1875, also in Nottingham. Ernest and Fanny were married at Nottingham St Ann in April 1894 and had four children only two of whom survived infancy or childhood: Ernest b. 3 August 1894 and Dorothy b. November 1909. In 1901 Ernest, a hairdresser on his own account, and Fanny were living at 3 Little John Terrace, Nottingham, with their son Ernest (6). By 1911 the family was living at 211 Alfred Street Central, Nottingham: Ernest a hairdresser, Fanny, Ernest a French polisher, and Dorothy (1). His parents were still living at the same address when Ernest died in August 1915. Ernest snr. died in May 1931. In 1939 when the England & Wales Register was compiled his widow Fanny and their unmarried daughter Dorothy, both lace workers, were living at 16 Montfort Street, Nottingham. Fanny died in 1950 and Dorothy in 1955.

Military History

Ernest joined the Royal Navy as an Ordinary Seaman on 22 February 1915, 'duration hostilities.' He was attached to Victory I from 22 February 1915 until 12 April and then Victory II from 13 April to 30 June 1915. Ernest was invalided from the Royal Navy and died at the Nottingham General Hospital on 2 August 1915, the day before his 21st birthday.
