He was married to Jessie and had two sons James and William they lived at 21 Beaconsfield Terrace, Salisbury Street Radford Nottingham. His pension record card shows his widow to be Jessie Lee born 4th June 1887 and two children, James Redford Walker born 15th October 1908 - born before wedlock and William born 4th July 1913. His widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 6 pence which commenced on 22nd November 1915. It further states Jessie Lee re married on 4th April 1917 to Percy Shelton a joiner.
Private William Lee, enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Radford he served with the 1st Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he had served on the Western Front since 27th January 1915. He was killed in action at Aubers Ridge on 9th May 1915 and having no known grave, he is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
In memoriam published 9th May 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “LEE. – In loving memory of Pte.
