Family History

Charles Samuel Bucknall was born in 1887 at Swallow, Lincolnshire, he was the son of Samuel Bucknall a labourer and Mary Elizabeth Bucknall née Hall Pollard of Greengate South Killingholme, Lincolnshire. His father Samuel was born in 1849 at East Halton, Lincolnshire, his mother Mary Elizabeth Hall Pollard born 1858 at Barnsley they were married 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Caistor registration district, they went on to have 9 children, sadly 3 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census his parents are living at Greengate, South Killingholme, Lincolnshire, Samuel 62 yrs is a labourer, he is living with his wife Mary Elizabeth 52 yrs and their children, Albert Vincent 18 yrs a bricklayers apprentice, Wilfrid Horace 13 yrs a scholar and Ralph Reginald 12 yrs a scholar. In the same 1911 census we find Charles Samuel has left the family home, he is living at Cullens Draper Store 73 Carrington Street, Nottingham, he is 24 yrs a drapers assistant, he is living at the address with other drapers assistants. Charles married Florence Evelyn Kate Slawson (born 3rd November 1888) on 4th December 1915 at St Giles Church, West Bridgford, they lived at 205 Exchange Road, West Bridgford, commencing 30th December 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Private Charles Samuel Bracknall enlisted at Royal Park, London, he initially served with the service number 142803 in the Army Service Corps, he was killed in action on 13th June 1918 and is buried at Noeux-Les- Mines Communal Cemetery Extension in France.
