William Cleaver (junior) was born in 1894 he was the son of William Cleaver (senior) a labourer and Charlotte Cleaver née Charlotte Elizabeth Ivens and the brother of Elsie, Hetty, Frank, Alfred, Sidney, Walter, Eileen and John Cleaver. William (senior) was born in 1861 and Charlotte Elizabeth Ivens was born in 1866 both were born at Southam, Warwickshire they were married in 1888 at Southam and went on to have 12 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at 93 Mill Street Basford Nottingham William 9senior) 50 yrs is a labourer, he is living with his wife Charlotte 44 yrs and 7 of their children including William (junior) 17 yrs

Military History

Private William Cleaver enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment and was killed in action on 18th September 1918, during the attack on the German trenches at Lechelle, France. Buried: Villers Hill British Cemetery, Villers-Guislain, France. Plot 5. Row C. Grave 2.
