Family History

Edward Housley (junior) was born in 1880 the son of Edward Housley (senior) a hosiery hand and Elizabeth Housley née Shrewsbury of 35 Kirkstead Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. Edward Housley (senior) was born in 1855 at Selston, Elizabeth Shrewsbury was born in 1858 at Beeston, married in 1879 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 9 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family are living at at 56 Saville Street, Nottingham, meanwhile Edward (junior) has left the family home , he is living at a boarding house at Pear Tree Cottage, Rayhill, Wakefield, he is 34 yrs of age, single and a labourer.

Military History

Private Edward Housley enlisted at Barnsley he initially served with the service number 95446 in the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment) He was killed in action on 19th August 1918 whilst serving with the 2/5th battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers and is buried in Houchin British Cemetery, Pas-de-Calais, France (grave ref. II.B.23).
