Family History

William Henry James Wright known to his family as Henry Wright was born in 1898 at Beeston and was the son of Thomas and Lily Wright née Milnes of 38 Mayfield Road, Kirkby in Ashfield. His father Thomas was born in 1872 in North Church, Hertfordshire and his mother Lily Milnes was born in 1874 at Wessington, Derbyshire, they were married in 1895 their marriage was recorded in the Belper Registration District. They went on to have 6 children, sadly one was to die in infancy, their surviving children were William Henry James b1898 Beeston, May b1900 Kirkby, Alec b1902 Kirkby, Nora Evelyn b1904 Kirkby and Benjamin b1907 Kirkby. In the 1911 census the family are living at 38 Mayfield Road, Kirkby in Ashfield and are shown as Thomas 39 yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Lily 37 yrs and their children William Henry James 13 yrs a pony driver, ,May 11 yrs a scholar, Alec 9 yrs a scholar, Nora Evelyn 7 yrs a scholar and Benjamin 4 yrs.

Military History

Private 12001 Henry Wright, enlisted at Hucknall in September 1914 and served with the 8th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He landed in France on 10th September 1915 and was killed in action on 12th April 1917 aged 19 yrs. His name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
