Horace was born in 1893 the son of the late James a laundry vanman and Annie Louise Shaw née Whitworth and the brother of Annie Louise, Martha Elizabeth, William George, Alfred James, Mabel, Herbert Richard, Jessie, Gwendolen and Bernard Shaw. James was born in 1863 at Basford, he died in 1903 aged 40 yrs, Louise Whitworth was born in 1863 at Clipstone, married 1886 In Nottingham, they had 14 children, sadly 3 died in infancy or early childhood. 1911 the family lived at 1 Palin Street Hyson Green Nottingham James 46 yrs is a laundry van driver. Horace 17 yrs is warehouse man

Military History

Private Horace Shaw enlisted at Nottingham , he was killed in action on 17th April 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial Bay 2 & 3
