Thomas William Derry was born in 1883 he was the son of the late William a farmer and Mary Derry née Hallam and the brother of Edith, Elizabeth and Mary Derry. William was born in 1842 at Tithby he died in 1886 aged 44 yrs, Mary Hallam was born in 1851 at West Bridgford she died in 1904 aged 53 yrs they were married in 1880 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district they had 5 children. In 1891 the family lived at 16 Cambridge Yard Radford Nottingham. In 1911 Thomas William has left the family home, he is living at Old Milton's Head Derby Road, Nottingham, he is shown as being 28 yrs and is a waiter and helper, he is living with William Parnham 44 yrs a licensed victualler.

Military History

Private Thomas William Derry enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 47391 in the North Staffordshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 12th October 1916, Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
