He was the son of Emma Wells. He was the husband of Elizabeth (née Newham) Wells and the father of Lilian, May, Frederick and Doris Wells. In 1911 they all lived at 69 Dane Street and later at 50 Truman Street (both Alfred Street St Ann's Nottingham).
