Arthur Bee was born in 1884 the son of Robert a lace dresser and Annie Bee née Purdy. His father was born in 1862 in Nottingham and his mother in 1864 also at Nottingham. They were married on 7th April 1883 at St Ann’s. Arthur’s father died aged 24 when he was two. In 1891 he and his mother lived with his grandmother Mary Purdy, a widowed midwife, at 14 Cambridge Street Nottingham. In 1901 Arthur and his mother lived at 3 Schooner Street Radford Nottingham. In 1911 Arthur was serving with 1st Battalion King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in Hong Kong. Arthur married Minnie Offler in 1916 and they lived at 105 Denison Street Radford. His mother Annie was living at 7 Bedford Square Hyson Green, Nottingham. (pension card)
Arthur Bee enlisted at Nottingham and landed in France on 30th August 1914 as a reinforcement to the 2nd Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He served throughout the war being eventually transferred to the Labour Corps. He died at his home address 105 Denman Street Nottingham of acute bronchitis and is buried in the Nottingham General Cemetery Grave Reference: 03522.
