Charles Henry Gee

Charles Henry was born in 1896 in Nottingham and was the son of Thomas a lace maker and Alice Ann Gee née Foster. His father Thomas was born in 1858 in Bedworth, Warwickshire, and his mother Alice Ann Foster was born in 1855 in Sheffield. They were married in 1880 in Radford and went on to have 11 children, sadly three of whom died in infancy or early childhood. Their surviving children listed on the 1891/1901/1911 census were Alice Ann b1881, Mary Jane b1883, Ada b1883, John Thomas b1888, James b1890, Ernest b1892, Charles Henry b1896 and George b1898. All the children were born in Nottingham. His father Thomas died in 1906 aged 58 yrs. In the 1911 census the family are shown living at 18 Greek Street, Radford, and are shown as Mrs Gee 56 yrs she is living with her children, Ernest 19 yrs a bobbin carrier, Charles Henry 15 yrs a warehouseman in a cotton mill and George 13 yrs a cotton mill worker, also at the address is Edward Noon 19 yrs a lace maker a boarder Charles Henry married Minnie Ellen (Nellie) Pitman on 14th August 1915 in the Parish Church, New Radford, they went on to have a son Charles Henry Gee born 15th May 1916. They lived at 3 Alfred Street, Nottingham. Following Charles' death his wife and child lived at 47 Independent Street, Radford, Nottingham. In October 1918 his widow received a letter from the Ministry of Pensions informing her that she would be receiving a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence in respect of her and her son with effect from 21st October 1918.
