Family History

Wilfred Taylor was baptised on 7th February 1892 at Alfreton Parish Church, the son of John Wall a coal miner contractor and Annie Taylor née Brewster of 22, Alexandra St., East Kirkby, Notts. John Wall Taylor was born in 1862 at Kilburn, Annie Brewster was born in 1864 at Underwood, married on 19th June 1881 at Blackwell Parish Church they had 9 children. In 1911 the family lived at Model Cottage, Catherine Street, Alfreton.

Military History

Private Wilfred Taylor, enlisted at Newark on 17th October 1914 giving his age as 22 yrs 10 months and working as a coal miner at Butterley Colliery he served with the 1/8th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment. He landed in France on 2nd March 1915 and was seriously wounded in action on 23rd April 1915, dying later that day in hospital at Bailleul. He is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery.
